The conference “Forms of Resistance. What community of memory are we building?”

In the summer of 1941, Nazi Germany began the direct extermination of the Jews. Initially these were mass executions of civilians in the East, and from 1942 deportations to extermination camps established in occupied Poland. The incoming information about the mass murders made it increasingly clear to the Jews from a certain point in time – different for different Jewish communities – that they were in mortal danger, which was difficult to avoid. The aim of the conference is to identify and describe the experience of Jewish life in the face of the imminent and inevitable threat of the Holocaust. How did information about mass killings spread? How did the Jews adapt to the extreme conditions? What was their life like day after day under these conditions? What were their experiences and emotions and their awareness of their further fate?
