Exhibition “Monuments of Resistance. Art and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (1943-1956)”
The exhibition will be devoted to the reception of the Jewish uprising in the art of the post-war period and the Stalinist period. It will be the first contextual exhibition in history that will provide a deep insight into the ways of illustrating and commemorating the armed resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto from that time.
The exhibition will present a wide selection of works of art, often completely unknown to a wide audience, including large-format socialist realist oil paintings, anniversary posters from 1945-1948, illustrations published in the Jewish press and books, as well as drawings, photographs, sculptures and metalwork from the era. The works presented on the exhibition will mostly come from the unique collections of the Jewish Historical Institute.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a program of events (meetings, guided tours and film screenings) as well as a richly illustrated catalogue presenting the results of research carried out by the curators.
The curators of the exhibition are: Marta Kapełuś (JHI) and Michał Krasicki (JHI) and Dr. Piotr Słodkowski (Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw).
Event duration: April 21 – October 1, 2023
